TRISP: The Training and Research Institute for Self Psychology

The Training and Research Institute for Self Psychology (TRISP) is a Self Psychologically oriented psychoanalytic training institute in New York City. The institute is dedicated to providing training to clinicians, moderate-cost psychotherapy to the community, and educational programs.

TRISP was founded in 1987 as the first Self Psychological training institute in the country. Its tradition of intellectual vitality in an empathic and supportive setting continues through two training programs for mental-health practitioners. Both are built upon a theoretical foundation that comprises Self Psychology, Intersubjectivity theory, and Relational Theory.

TRAINING

The four-year certification program is an intensive, academically and clinically rigorous training program that meets during the day on alternate Fridays. Candidates in the four-year program are provided with patients through our patient referral network. Not currently accepting candidates for 2008-2009. The two-year training program offers evening classes and emphasizes an experiential approach to learning. Both programs are designed for clinicians who work full time.

REFERRAL NETWORK

TRISP offers moderate-cost psychoanalysis and psychotherapy by experienced professionals in a private-practice setting, through our psychological referral network (PRN).

WORKSHOPS, CONFERENCES

TRISP serves as the hub for a vibrant community of mental-health practitioners and non-clinicians, united by their interest in Self Psychology and Intersubjectivity and committed to advancing psychoanalytic theory and practice. The institute sponsors workshops and conferences for all interested members of the community.
