TWO YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM
The TRISP Two Year Training Program provides therapists with an innovative conceptual framework for developing and deepening their clinical skills. Known as relational self psychology, this framework combines self psychology and the theory of intersubjectivity as well as current research on infancy and development. Classes focus on the reciprocal engagement of therapist and patient, where students are encouraged to learn in an interactive setting with highly skilled instructors. The Core Curriculum consists of three 8-week courses and one 4-week mini-course each year. A minimum of 15 hours of individual supervision is required each year. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings at the instructor’s office. Therapists who wish to proceed to the TRISP four-year certification program in psychoanalysis will be offered a reduction in fees.
TRISP ALUMNI ASSOCIATION The TRISP Alumni Association (TAA) was formed to further the cohesiveness and vitality of the TRISP community by providing ongoing networking and learning opportunities for our graduates. The TAA is dedicated to fostering the intellectual needs of our candidates post training and providing collegial connection through educational opportunities such as: workshops, presentations and ongoing support for graduates engaged in writing for professional publication. We encourage and support TRISP alumni who wish to develop their own ideas for post-training opportunities.

FOUR YEAR CERTIFICATION PROGRAM During four years of study, candidates in the Four Year Certification Program acquire a comprehensive understanding of self-psychological theory and the theory of intersubjectivity — approaches that are now in the forefront of psychoanalysis. They study the evolution of these uniquely complementary approaches and are kept abreast of literature that updates, refines, and revises them. Candidates are thoroughly trained by highly skilled instructors and supervisors, many of whom have contributed significantly to the field. Not currently accepting candidates for 2008-2009. The TRISP curriculum is designed to acquaint candidates with the seminal writings of major theorists as well as innovative contributions that continually enrich and deepen our understanding of the analytic process. It features an historical survey of the roots of self psychology and intersubjectivity theory in classical psychoanalysis, ego psychology, and object relations theory, and an in-depth study of Heinz Kohut’s contributions. Other courses examine such vital areas as process and technique, infant research and development, dreams, gender and sexuality, fantasy, research, and psychopathology. The carefully balanced program, which includes course work, personal analysis, supervision and control case, a research paper, and case presentation, trains candidates with the same ideals of empathy and respect they are taught to apply to their clinical work.
